"Public libraries are well known as a place that one could borrow books for free to read, enjoy, and then return. I love this. Even with how far technology has come in entertainment in ways of movies, videos, augmented-reality, and virtual reality, reading offers a different type of immersion that can have longer lasting effects. These non-reading mediums of entertainment offer fast and easy immersion served quickly and all at once whereas reading can last multiple hours, days, even weeks. In most cases, books aren’t read all at once. This allows us to put the book down and allows the conscious and subconscious parts of our mind to process the words we’ve read and reflect on them before picking up the book again and continuing. This delayed satisfaction and gratification can be powerful."
